Singleton to Retire from MediaNews Group

William Dean Singleton, founder and chairman of MediaNews Group Inc. will retire prior to the company’s annual meeting in December.
Singleton, 62, will remain non-executive chairman of The Denver Post.
Mac Tully, Post president and CEO, will take over as the newspaper’s publisher.
Singleton founded the company with Richard Scudder in 1984 and built it into the nation’s second-largest newspaper company as measured by daily circulation. Scudder died in 2012 at the age of 99. …
John Paton succeeded Singleton as CEO of MediaNews Group in 2011. “Paton has begun a transformation of MediaNews into an exciting digital news company,” Singleton said. “I retire confident of its future under John’s dynamic leadership.”
