The Thermopolis Independent Record has new owners.
J. Louis Mullen and his wife, Dr. Lisa Mullen, of Buffalo have purchased the newspaper from its longtime owners, the Peck family of Riverton, Chris Peck announced last Thursday.
Louis Mullen grew up in the newspaper business in Newcastle and he currently owns and operates the Green River Star. He was the publisher of the Philipsburg Mail and Editor-in-Chief at the Silver State Post in Montana. He and his wife have made a home in Buffalo where she practices family medicine. They have a baby girl, Nora.
“Pat Schmidt (former Independent-Record owner) is one of the finest newspapermen I know and the Peck family is legendary in Wyoming so it’s an honor to be able to carry on their tradition here and to keep the ownership in Wyoming,” Mullen said.
He added that the newspaper has long been known as one of the state’s best so readers can expect few changes.
“Chris told me that the Peck family has for generations helped their own publishers buy into their newspapers but this is the first time they’ve sold a newspaper outright. It’s a humbling experience and I look forward to maintaining the trust the Pecks the Schmidts, and the great people they’ve employed, established here over the years,” Mullen added.
