The Montana Newspaper Foundation will offer $10,000 in grant funding for paid interns in 2024 and will accept applications for the 2024 internship grant program through Feb. 1, 2024. News organizations approved for a grant will receive up to $2,000 to defray the cost of a paid intern and will be required to match the grant 1:1 for the intern’s compensation. In addition to compensation, interns who are students may receive institutional credit, if their school allows it.
Internship grants are available for all facets of the news industry, including, but not limited to: reporting, photography, layout and design, social media, website design/management, newsletter development, multimedia, reader engagement, circulation, advertising sales and design, financial management and more.
Newspapers applying for the internship grants will specify how much in funding they are requesting, what the hourly compensation for the intern shall be and the length of the internship in days or weeks.
Internship employment is open to anyone 16 and older who is interested in pursuing a career in community journalism.
Newspapers selected for grants must provide the MNA office with a photo and profile of their intern for use in press releases or newsletters.
Deadline to apply for a Montana Newspaper Foundation internship grant is Feb. 15, 2024!
